Beijing ChengXuan Auctions Co., Ltd was established in 2005. Relying on the tireless efforts of our staff and the supports of our many friends in all fields, although a new auction house, ChengXuan has successfully held 8 auctions since the first big success in November 2005.
In the Chinese auction business, Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy has always been considered as a main component in the field of auctions. Li Ke Ran's "The Boundless Misty River in the Sunset's Glow" sold at RMB15.4 million creating a new price record for Li's paintings at ChengXuan's 2005 autumn auctions. The special sale "Fan Paintings and Calligraphy from Hwang Tien-Tsai's Collection" created a new legend because of its 100 percent selling rate. The spring and autumn auctions of Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy in 2006 also made a steady progress under a comparatively weakened atmosphere of the paintings and calligraphy markets in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Not only were the modern-contemporary masters such as: Wu Changshuo, Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong, Zhang Daqian, Fu Baoshi, Li Keran and Shi Lu fixed on by the collectors, but also the contemporary Chinese paintings became a new sparkle in the market including the paintings of Zhou Sicong、Tian Liming, Jiang Hongwei, Xu Lei and so on. With an obvious rebounding of the demands in the Chinese paintings and calligraphies market in 2007, the selling rate of the spring auction in May is up to 78%, and that of the autumn auction in November is close to 90%. The paintings of Xu Beihong are on the highlight. His painting The Lady with A Fan in the spring auction was sold for RMB4.5 1million, and The Morning Glories and Two Cats in the autumn auction went for RMB5, 734,400.
Oil Paintings as a new favorite in the field of Chinese auctions had a good beginning at ChengXuan's 2005 autumn auctions. Several painters had rewritten their paintings' prices, such as: Summer Breeze from Luo Zhongli, The Heigen's -The Host And The Hostess from Zhou Chunya and Liu Wei's Unashamed. In 2006, Chinese contemporary oil paintings were so popular in the international art market that they had great impact on the domestic art market as well. And at the 2006 spring auctions, some paintings achieved a higher price level compared to the same size and same theme earlier. These were Zhang Xiaogang, Yue Minjun, Zhou Chunya, Liu Wei and Zeng Fanzhi and Wang Huaiqing of the 2006 autumn auctions. In 2007, The Music by Yue Minjun has been sold at RMB 11.256 million creating the highest selling price of author's paintings in the mainland auction. The works of Zhang Xiaogang, Zhou Chunya, Zeng Fanzhi, Yin Zhaoyang, Zhang Huan, Hong Lei and other artists were favored by collectors.
At the 2005 autumn auctions, Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, the turnover was more than RMB40 million though the number of items was less than 200 among which a fine and very rare large lime-green moulded bowl of the YongZheng period, Qing Dynasty and a celadon-glazed beaker vase of the QianLong period, Qing Dynasty attracted most buyers' attention. A fine and rare yellow ground biscuit dragon dish of the Kangxi period, Qing Dynasty with strong royal style was sold for RMB 3.652 million at 2006 spring auctions. At the autumn auctions a rare cinnabar lacquer dish by ZhangCheng, Yuan Dynasty was sold at RMB4.07 million. In 2007, the works of Qing dynasty's Official kilns were approved by collectors. The Blue and White Vase and the Blue and White Vase with two handles in the shape of elephant of Qianlong period in Qing Dyansty both were sold over RMB 6 million. Besides this, there were various works of arts such as: the Tianhuang Seals, Jades works, lacquer works, bamboo and ivory carvings, reflecting the multiple tastes of the collectors.
Although Stamps and Postal History market usually is rather placid, there was a sparkle new records at the 2006 spring auctions: a 1898 HuNan Province, Kuang Hsu Yuan Pao, 7 Mace 2 Cds trial pattern which sold for RMB2.365 million and broken 15 year world record in Chinese silver coins auctions. In 2007, Coins and Banknotes sale got a total amount as highest as RMB 43.95million. Also, a Hubei Province Kuang Hsu Yuan Pao 7Mace 2 Cds silver coin with Chinese character "本省" (means Hubei Only) of 1896 has broken the world record on the Chinese silver coins by selling it at RMB 4.368 million after the excited bid. A 1927 Chang Tso Lin memorial pattern silver coin sold for RMB4.256 million creating new record on the silver coins of ROC period.
Although ChengXuan is a newcomer in the Chinese auctions business, most employees have extensive professional experience and worked as a team for many years. Guided by the operating philosophy "honesty, law-abiding and self-discipline", ChengXuan had achieved complete success at the 2006 spring and autumn auctions since the first appearance in 2005, which manifest the affirmations for our work attitude from our customers and the acknowledges from people of different sectors of society on our enterprising idea.
